During combustion the chemical combinations become instable and fall apart into halogenous compounds. Chlorine and hydrogen change into hydrogen chloride. When exposed to humid air the hydrogen chloride transforms into hydrochloric acid. Inhalation of this highly corrosive gas causes severe damage to the bronchial tubes.
When exposed to humid air, hydrochloric acid gases become electrically conductive which causes short-circuits and irreparable damage to electrical appliances. In extreme situations even concrete constructions can be affected, become instable and collapse.
Halogens emit toxic gases such as carbon dioxide (CO2) and carbon monoxide (CO). These gases break down the oxygen very rapidly which can cause suffocation.
Preflex conduits comply with the low smoke directive IEC 61034. This European directive attends to the density of smoke originated by the combustion of materials. According to this directive the visibility may never become less than 60%. The tests executed on Preflex conduits show a preservation of no less than 94% of the visibility.

These directives state that the degree of acidity of gases evoked by combustion of halogen free materials may not exceed a certain limit. The average pH value of the evoked gasses may not be lower than 4,3 and the conductivity may not be higher than 10ųS/mm.
